Something for Easter.

“I am convinced that Jesus did not just come to prepare us to die; He came to teach us to live.  The vision that Jesus invites us to follow is not just a vision for heaven… seriously now, how hard can it be to love our enemies in heaven?!  Jesus is teaching us a vision for how to live on earth, to care for others.  Here and now is where and when we need to figure out how to love those who are against us.  The Kingdom of God that Jesus spoke of wasn’t just something we hope for when we die, but something we are to bring to earth as it is in heaven.  It’s not just about us going up, but about bringing God’s kingdom down.” Shane Claiborne, Follow Me to Freedom: Leading and Following as an Ordinary Radical, page 52. ...

Yet another reason why I am no longer a Democrat.

So someone over at Daily Kos thinks Dennis Kucinich is “a little prick.”

Now, that’s mature.

And Markos Moulitsas went on Countdown tonight with a big old snark on to slam him some more, basically saying that Kucinich had earned a primary challenge from the right for his transgressions.  Which is kinda like calling him a little you-know-what without getting bleeped.

Moulitsas is supposedly a liberal.  So much for that idea, I guess.

The second-biggest water-carrying blog for the establishment/centrist/corporate wing of the Democratic Party is unhappy that Rep. Kucinich doesn’t like the “health insurance reform” bill now making its way toward a vote maybe next week.  Not liberal enough for Dennis, ...

Sarah Palin’s hate speech.

When I decided to come back to blogging this past holiday season, I made a little secret pledge to myself to avoid blogging about certain topics – and people – during this round.  Talking about the myriad sins of folks like Glenn Beck, for example, just makes me angry and cynical and further drags me (and you) down in the media cesspit that so many of us work so hard to avoid.

Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh were also on that short list of  Topics About Which I Would Not Blog.

But.

No, I’m not going to mock her for using the crib notes she literally palmed during her incoherent, incomprehensible excuse for a speech this past weekend. All that means is we really don’t need to pay any further attention to the Right’s ...

About that game today…

Not Arsenal-Chelsea, the other one.

I hope the Saints win.

Because it might be good for the city.  Because of Katrina.

Yeah, I said it, and I meant it.  Apparently expressing this opinion is somehow being less than progressive, or less than “with it,” because it somehow infers that people who think this way didn’t give a damn about New Orleans while the nightmare of Katrina was going on, and it’s only now that knuckledraggers who also enjoy watching football give a flying fig about the city.

Yes, I read that on a progressive blog someplace.  Whatever.  That explains why I don’t visit that particular blog much these days, in a nutshell.  Please don’t assume you understand me or my motives or my ...

Jesus is not for wusses.

This comes from a couple of very interesting “conversations” I had with a couple of virtual friends on a certain social networking site where I spend way too much of my time lately, on the subject of religion and faith.  If that sort of subject matter turns you off, feel free to click on elsewhere.  I’m not going to debate God or religion in general with you, so let’s not go there, okay?

And some of my Friendly friends might take issue with perhaps what they will read as the “hard” tone this post may take, but understand that I say all this in the spirit of  love.  Honest.

Still here?  Cool.

The conversation started when someone posted a link to an old blog post concerned the ...

Rush and Pat Don't Speak for Us. See who we (really) are.

One of the things I told myself when I decided to start posting stuff here again was that I would spend less time complaining, that I would most especially stop wasting time kvetching about the nonsense which on a regular basis is spewed forth by people like Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson.

Which is why I refrained from rushing to my free WordPress blog to complain about the stupid, insensitve comments about Haiti which each of these men ...

Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence

(Speech delivered April 4, 1971, Riverside Church, New York City.)

Mr. Chairman, ladies and gentlemen:

I need not pause to say how very delighted I am to be here tonight, and how very delighted I am to see you expressing your concern about the issues that will be discussed tonight by turning out in such large numbers. I also want to say that I consider it a great honor to share this program with Dr. ...

Not a day to whine, about anything

A really good list of NGOs providing emergency relief aid for the people of Haiti can be found here.

Pray for the people of Haiti, of course, but do more than that, too.  CARE and AFSC got mine.  Send something, to somebody, please.

Namaste.
