Hail to the Chief!
My computer here in Yokohama says 2:46 a.m, Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Barack Obama is now President of the United States! My eyes are damp, I’m feeling choked up. I haven’t heard a single line that will ring through history. I have heard a serious assessment of where the country finds itself and a sober confidence that, yes, we can rebuild. That’s our responsibility. Can we rise to the occasion? Can we be responsible? That my friends is the question.

I really liked his speech. There were more than a few swipes at the lack of responsibility of the Bush administration.
But he made no bones about it. Things like the housing mess are not simply the fault of greedy Wall street people. The people who got in over their heads also bear responsibility.
One thing for sure, President Obama is a leader, he is nobody’s pawn.

I congratulate you America, for, in the person of President Barak Obama, a new day is born for you and for all of us around the world. How good this is! This is but an evidence that America, as a nation and people, has long crossed the bridge of its coming of age. How otherwise would this be possible? The world will now see the reason when you say, “I am proud to be American!”
Personally I have long looked up to America as an increasingly clearer glimpse into the future planetary society. Not surprisingly this vision was not shared by many for a long time. I am confident now that the promises of this new day will assure many people around the world that America’s greatness may not be a threat to the world. I am confident too that when we eventually establish that long awaited planetary family hood and face its challenges, we will look back to America’s history and say: “Yes, we have been through this.”
I think Obama has united, as never before, millions in America and around the world with a new vision of hope. I pray that God may enable him to lead America to its victories not by its power alone but also with the good will and support of all nations and peoples. In spite of the daunting challenges ahead, I believe that the promised change will come with the leadership of President Obama. I believe in him and I believe in God who created such a good man and a good leader.
America, may God enable you to be true to the trust placed on you now and to take your “collective responsibility” to “remaking America” and work peacefully with all nations to remake the world!

SCJ John Roberts has a very simple and precise job to perform and he bungles it, not once but twice. Seems befitting of a Bush appointee in his final duty before change, now dunnit ?
Enjoyed the fact President Obama nodded and left him opportunity to correct his confused verbiage and Roberts still messed it up, to which the first lady and the President simply smiled. Class has once again found a home in the White House.

I thought Obama’s speech was excellent, a sober rendering of the past, present and what must be in the future. I’ll never forget watching him at the 2004 Dem convention, turning to my spouse and saying” honey, this guy is the real deal, we need to watch him going forward”. She reminded me of this on election day, not that I needed reminding. His campaign was virtually flawless, simply the best campaign I’ve seen. If his campaign is any reflection of his abilities (which it is) we are in for extraordinary times.
The pushback will come from the “elite” and those who represent them in Washington - on both sides of the aisle. This will be a fierce test of will and a battle with huge consequences.
I am not an American but, even though we are in dire straits on many fronts, I have a renewed confidence level in the U.S., which has been sadly missing for years. I wish President Obama and his family good luck and all the best. ![]()

And hey, in the inaugural parade, he got out and walked, twice!
