Make The Most Of Your Time Here
It has been a delight playing the role of diversity show here in the locker room, but that time of joy must come to an end. I haven’t been around much lately, but I have carried the weight of my presumptive blogging responsibility on my shoulders, as I am wont to do. And as the year came to an end and a more hopeful year lies begins, one in which a new administration with a new light will finally grace My Native City, I have decided that my writing needs to be both more and less focused. I have tired of short stories and essays. I am working on a long fiction piece and a collection of essays that both require concentration. At the same time my general blogging, especially since the election, has incorporated sports, recipes, and other nattering that doesn’t seem appropriate here.
In fact this blog increasingly seems to be evolving into one wherein there is a lot of observation from offshore. And I am as insider as one can get. I was even born about a mile from the Capitol, conveniently in the evening so that the body was not in session. As all of these things have coalesced I have become cognizant of the fact that it is time for me to find my way elsewhere, observing the new Obama administration from more distance. I have enjoyed you all. Blog on.
Which sounds like an ending. But I want more for you. More of the kind of thing I’ll be reaching for. So my one last thing, my last wish for you, is to ask you to watch this and make the most of your time here.

Does it take someone born and bred inside the Beltway to see our New Yorkers writing from offshore?
But, seriously, Sasha, it has been a pleasure. You will be missed. Best wishes for the New Year and for success in all your endeavors.

After writing the previous comment, I took to the time to watch the video. What a marvelous, heartwarming thing it is. In return, since you mention recipes among your interests, allow me to recommend

Sasha, haven’t been here very long, but many thanks for the video and for your thoughts, and may you always have the wind filling the sails of your new projects. Check out Scott Horton “No Comment” for a wonderful poem by Rumi about making journeys–his post of yesterday, “Rumi’s Parable of the Three Fish”
(http://www.harpers.org/subjects/NoComment#hbc-90004100). Consider it an exchange of gifts for the new year with you and John McCreery’s little present of the Jennifer 8. Lee piece on Chinese food.

PS:
Scott Horton also has a post that contains your clip of Brzezinski calling a Scarborough a Scarborough in the same batch. See “Eyeless in Gaza II.”
