Go for the Jugular.
If Obama loses this race it’s because his team has decided to give McCain way more respect than he deserves and treat him like a worthy opponent. He’s not. Not by a longshot. This is critical in the debate and ultimately to winning in November. It’s not enough for Obama to win on points, he has to take the risk of being seen as “uppity” and win by a knockout.
Here’s a brief synopsis of fun stuff in the past 48 hours:
McCain flip-flops on whether bailing out AIG is a good idea. Against it on Tuesday, for it on Wednesday.
McCain doesn’t know what or where Spain is and decides it’s a hostile Latin American nation.
Palin’s short history in Alaska is being scrubbed by the same operatives who have rigged the game for BushCo. Plus the McCain campaign is gumming up the Troopergate investigation to such a degree that it is likely not to go forward prior to the election. Amazing their hypocrisy when it come to the law and lawyers. Now that’s change we can believe in
Plus (this is a must-see) the rats are running as fast as they can away from the past 8 years. As Matthews points out, none of them use the word Republican, not even in their convention. If they use the word Bush it means anything other than the guy who still lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. By the way would anyone know we have a sitting president these days? The Dow drops 1000 in two days and not a single word from that SOB.
You get the picture, I could fill the whole BoB space with more. The wind could not be more at the Dem’s backs. So in the debates, Obama can’t sit on a lead–he has to fight his reflexes: Respect for his elders. Senatorial comity and respectful collegial dialog. The need to win on substance points. Obama needs to realize that if he’s truly patriotic, he cannot under any circumstances allow this man and his reptilian counterpart to win this race. Obama has to make him angry. Get him confused. Make him run on his record and take him off his talking points. McCain (and Palin) unscripted is a scary thing. It will a painful thing to watch, but it needs to happen. McCain needs to be revealed for exactly who and what he is. This is not the time for a considered debate among gentlemen, if for no other reason, there’s only one gentleman in the room…

I saw Matthews rip Cantor apart yesterday. Cong. Wexler was the counter point who didn’t get much airtime, but when he did he was specific and direct. A preview of the debates?!
Now if Obama had one-tenth Mathews’ passion and persistence, he would be a run-away winner by now. I wonder if any one on the O Team watches Hardball: he does have some good original talking points.

I was going to post on this, but as obnoxious and limited Palin is, she has recycled that convention speech to death–and she gets air time every time she does it. Meanwhile, Obama and Biden change their stump speeches every day. I, for one, appreciate that because I’m a junkie. But the Pugs never assume anyone has heard any given message, so they pound away, verbatim with the same phrases until they stick. CNN & MSNBC covered Palin’s speech today in Iowa. There was no news, not a word of difference between what she said in the convention, yet she got 8 minutes of air time to pound that whiny bullshit.
It’s brand advertising 101 and it works.

You’re right. Wexler is a gem. Look for him to do some great things in the future…assuming America lasts that long.
