I’m Watching
that ridiculous forum on public service where they interview Messrs. McCain and Obama, each for an hour, about “service” and other namby-pamby related stuff. I could have sworn that Mr. McCain said that if Mr. Obama had agreed to the town-hall meetings he wanted the campaign wouldn’t have gotten nasty. I think he meant to appear to convey that there would have been no need for ugly commercials if he could have gotten his message out via town hall meetings, but it sounded for all the world like a sniveling child saying “That’s what you get for not doing what I wanted you to do.”

Wasn’t me. SilentPatriot says the same thing at Crooks and Liars and offers this transcript.
“I think the tone of this whole campaign would have been very different if Senator Obama had accepted my request for us to appear in town hall meetings all across America, the same way Jack Kennedy and Barry Goldwater had agreed to do so. I know that because I”ve been in enough campaigns.”

I had the same feeling. Of course, they the interviewers let it slide. I did notice that McCain got a free ride in the first hour, but every question to Obama was usually led with the comment, “Senator McCain said….[not what do you think…]”. Unfair, not balanced.
