Time To Get To Work

The fun is over for now. It is time to get to work. Do you remember the presidential election of 2004? There is a picture of how it went over there on the right, just in case you have forgotten.

While you are planning the best course for the Obama campaign, enjoying the debates, railing over the outrageous lies, and the like, you need to do your part by getting everybody and their second cousin to register to vote. The opposition is still full of really really bad guys, and if you doubt that, let me remind you about the seamier side of Sarah Palin.

They will try everything they can to maintain power. They are the corporatists, the Republicans, the Cheneys, the oil and medical and war interests. They will misallocate voting machines, lock doors, reprogram computers, remove legitimate voters from the rolls, vote two or three or four time, and do lots of other things that we haven’t thought of yet. They will target brown districts and democratic districts. We can’t stop everything they will do.

But we can overwhelm them. They can’t steal all of the votes. Democratic registration is up while Republican registration is down. But that isn’t enough. We have to get every single possible person registered now and get them to the polls later. We can’t give them a chance to steal this one. It is too important.

Great post. Let me add that for anyone you know who will be overseas and need to vote by absentee ballot, the end of September is (with some variation by state), the last chance to register.

Send them post haste to http://www.VoteFromAbroad.org

Great Post, Sasha.
FYI for the first time in my life I have donated to a political candidate, (Obama of course) and am volunteering with my local party.
I hope there are a lot more like me.

Sandy, you are not alone. Obama’s having received donations from over two million donors is absolutely unprecedented, and the work being done on the ground equally so. See for example this diary on Raising Kaine.

This says it all ….

“I did have a laugh while watching the Republican show in the Twin Cities last week. I was looking at the many lovingly made-by-hand signs the Republican supporters were waving over their pointed little heads and I saw one that tickled my funny bone. It read: “mavrick”.

I pray to God that every self-professed redneck and bigot develops color-blindness in the next 60 days and votes for the man who will do the best job as President of our United States. If that were to miraculously happen, then Barack Obama would be elected Commander-in-Chief.

We, our country and the world will have at least 4, if not 8, years of sane governance of our country, and measured and reasoned responses to world issues and crises. Vigorous development of new industries and creation of new jobs. An end to the dreadful war imposed on us and the Iraqis by the Bush juggernaut. An opportunity for those who have been marginalized these past 8 years to begin to re-discover their sense of pride in absolutely everything American, a renewed interest and feeling of security in their jobs, and real comfort and joy in their daily lives.

All of this will be due to a decent, spiritual, well-educated, thoughtful family man and concerned citizen of this country, whose intentions and judgment are well-respected both here and throughout the world, will be taking the oath of office next January. Barack Obama, save us all!”

Sandy, I also gave money to a politician for the first time in my life. I sent money to Obama back before super Tuesday, and will be sending more before Nov. Remember, getting new people registered to vote is one thing. Actually getting them to vote is another. The repigs are counting on the fact that history shows that people under 30 do not vote. Let us hope and prey that this year will be different. And hope that Barr gets at least 10% of the repig vote.
