What is on my mind is the police riot that has been going on outside the RNC Convention and, as a corollary, how little attention it has been getting. I assume by now you have seen the video of Amy Goodman getting arrested and tons of other early coverage. Digby pointed me here http://wcco.com/local/RNC.antiwar.march.2.809887.html to look at the video in the upper right.

Somebody tell me why this isn’t getting widespread media coverate please.

AP

Broken and disgraced, lobbyist Jack Abramoff will spend four years in prison for his role in a corruption scandal that upended Washington politics and contributed to the Republicans’ loss of Congress in 2006.

The once powerful Washington insider, at times choking back tears during his sentencing hearing Thursday, appeared crestfallen as a judge handed down a longer sentence than prosecutors had sought.

This makes me very happy. I just hope His Royal Bushness doesn’t pardon Abramoff’s sorry ass.

I watched McCain’s speech live last night (thanks to Dish Network) and there were demonstrations going on inside the convention hall, too. I doubt if the media will say too much about them either.

This from CNNMONEY: “Behind the minimum wage debate”

“Some argue that a higher minimum wage leads to more unemployment. But with wages failing to keep up with inflation, some think more increases are needed.

Democratic nominee Barack Obama is proposing that the minimum wage increase again, to $9.50 an hour, by 2011 and that further increases should be pegged to inflation.

Republican contender John McCain, however, is opposed to further minimum wage hikes. Instead, he’s arguing that corporate tax cuts and better training programs for job seekers will be the key to higher wages.”

Maybe if we had higher wages we could keep some of the jobs being
sent out of the country. Sounds like a win-win situation to me. Who says minimum wage hikes are a zero sum game? :)

Nose, Unfortunately our last three sentences are exactly opposite the truth. Jobs are sent out of the country BECAUSE they go where there are cheap wages.

AND, In case you or anyone else who reads here, Jobs INSIDE our country are going to foreign folks brought INTO the USA by Consulting companies like India’s INFOSYS and COGNIZANCE.

These ‘consulting companies undercut prevailing wages of American and pay the folks who actually do the work even less. The jobs are in hi tech, business analysis, programming, IT project management and the workers have no intention of becoming US citizens.
AND they are NOT better than their AMerican competition, only cheaper.

The last item of interest about this “insourcing” is that American Insurance giants have formed “partnerships” with theses foreign companies to ensure this keeps happening without any nonsense about green card limitations!

ON Japanese TV, I only saw excerpts of the Repub convention. However, I think McCain looks seriously ill. Are we talking coronary time here?

Of course, there are those who are praying for just that.

OBAMA2008:
I’ll skip trying to explain my sarcasm to you.

To make your critique more accurate, let’s say companies generally locate where profits are optimum-whether because of lower taxes, lower land cost, cost of materials, wages, etc. They will continue this as long as we allow it. Most of us can agree that Uncle Sam would step in if enough jobs left the country to jack the unemployment up to 50%. The question is “How high can government let unemployment go, and how far down the scale can Congress let the standard of living go for Americans before enough people demand redress?” I don’t think we will reach this point before the 2016 election.

The Alaska Senate President, Lydia Green, a Republican, said the following:

“She’s not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be
Vice President or President?”

Also the leading Alaskan newspapers have said the same thing.
When will the MSM stop saying her popularity rating is at 80% when it
isn’t? She had the 80% rating immediately after being elected but her popularity has been steadily falling.
Also, in a state with population of 600,000, she won with a little over
130,000 total votes. Ugh.

WHAT WAS McCORPSE THINKING?
