Gift From God?
Of all the shameful and shameless events of Bushco, Katrina sits right atop my list. Well, sports fans, welcome to Gustav, which if the weather folks are right, is projected to be a Cat 4 hurricane aimed right smack at New Orleans. Interestingly, it will make landfall Monday night, the opening of the Republican Convention.
Forgive the pun, but it will be watershed event in this election depending upon how the Dems handle it. NOLA is not rebuilt, except for the touristy white parts. The levees are “repaired” but not re-engineered. Billions were sent and stolen. There are thousands of unused FEMA trailers rotting just outside New Orleans while a good third of NOLA’s population still haven’t returned home. Is there no more damning and tangible evidence of why we cannot tolerate four more years in the hands of John McCain?
Back to the Dems. The right response to an event like Gustav is compassion, of course. Hundreds of thousands of people are once again likely to lose everything they own if the forecast is correct. New Orleans may be cooked for good having taken a one-two punch within five years without relief–we’ll have to see. But if all the Dems do is get on camera and provide that weepy liberalism they’re known for, they will have missed an opportunity to once and for all put a stake in the hearts of those who have been sucking the blood out of America. It’s time for vein-popping outrage. This is the time to plunge the knife and twist. There is a single reason for the plight of New Orleans. It’s Republican policy and its attendant cronyism, fueled by the sociopathic cruelty and unparalleled greed of the guys who are running this joint for the next four months. If the Dems can’t make that case because they don’t want to be seen as capitalizing on a tragedy, they don’t deserve to be in office. The tragedy, if the weather guys are right, is going to happen no matter what we do. The silver lining in this is to make damned sure that those who created this situation never get a chance to do it again.

LC, or maybe not. Last I heard-from my local weather guys-is that it would be a cat 3 and that it might hit Texas instead of NO. Should know by Sunday. It will be a big test for govt at all levels from local to state and federal. One hopes that they have learned something. One also hopes thast the idiots who decided to stay to protect their homes also learned something. Here, if one drives around high water barricades or if one even goes onto a flooded road that is obviously to deep and they have to be rescued then they have to pay for others risking their lives to retrieve the idiot who put himself and others at risk. Fine of about $500 + cost of rescue(about 600-1500$$) +losing their car and getting insurance canx-ins will not pay if one is stupid enough to drive where the water is too high(we have flash floods here quite often, and all the high water streets have been mapped by the city and barricades set out) What does this have to do with Katrina? Simple, those who knew about the hurricane, yet stayed to ‘protect’ their property should be charged for their rescue. Idiots should never be allowed to put other lives in danger when they could have avoided the entire situation by just leaving. Those who either payed no attention or refused to leave, are the idiots. Where govt failed was in not providing transport for those who had no way out other than walking. There is a difference between the helpless and the idiots. I care nothing for the idiots who put themselves into that situation where others had to rescue them. Those people should have to pay, and pay dearly so they won’t do it again. But I will bet you that if this hurricane hits NO that you will find some of the same idiots who did not leave when they could the last time will once more refuse to leave. Then someone will have to risk their lives once more to rescue them again. These people are very deserving of a Darwin Award.

God hates the repigs. First Katrina during a repig administration, now the possible arrival of another hurricane hitting NO on the first day of the repig convention(BTW, monday is also a holiday, Labor Day-but then repigs have always hated labor because they refuse to work for starvation wages)-also, did anyone ever take up McCain’s offer of $50 an hour to pick lettuce for the entire season??-YEP, god hates the repigs alright. Flordia got hammered by several hurricanes a couple of years back-when clinton was prez-and I believe that Fla had a repig gov then didn’t they?

The question is will John McCain show up there for an “I care”, “I’m not George Bush” photo opp, a detour to the Twins, or will Biden or Obama beat him to the punch and stay for a few days to help out?

I see Limbaugh has picked up the story line of the media rooting for Hurricane Gustav to slam New Orleans so they can gain points for Obama by rehashing Hurricane Katrina.
Kudos to http://www.notwrightforamerica.com for pointing out last night how the media were cheering Gustav on. It’s disgusting that they would use hurricane victims for political gain.

Damned if we do, damned if we don’t, GM. Mind you, I’m not certainly rooting for the hurricane or for the eventual tragedy it’s going to cause. My bottom line is that we’d have much less carnage and loss if Bushco did what they were supposed to do and it’s the Dem’s obligation to point that out in the most specific ways possible. You can’t take a stand for the middle class and least among us if you lack to courage to take on those whose negligence and lack of compassion have deliberately caused their demise. Political gain may be the only silver lining out of this…

Right on, Lefty. Let’s all pray that Gustav spares the Gulf Coast. But if it doesn’t, let’s use it for all that it’s worth. I just wonder what all the folks that have been told to pray for rain in Denver today are thinking.
