US ships on the way
A picture of a US destroyer on the way to Poti, for a confrontation with nulcear armed Russia. Russian troops had evacuated the city on Aug. 14, but they returned when George decided to send warships there.
Good Luck everybody. Nobody has been able to stop Bush.
By the way, warships are too small to carry any but the most token amount of supplies. Bush is intent on war with nuclear armed Russia. That is it.

Just for the picture Sasha. What I find ironic is that freerepublic says that Russia should pull back and defuse the situation.
They say nothing about how the US sending warships is a direct provocation. Russian forces were already withdrawing. But the advance of US Naval vessels has caused them to return to the port.
I really do hope we can get through the next few days without Americans and Russians firing on each other, but it will be difficult, Bush is pushing for war.
And I hope it will not go world wide nuclear. If it does, it will probably be us who start, in the caucuses, we are the weaker power. If it comes to confrontation, our force is too small, they will be quickly destroyed.

max, nothing at all from Turkey yet. If these ships do enter the Black Sea it will be on Turkey TV. Being a member of NATO and a near neighbor of Russia, and once again saying that while the 2DD’s had previous permission to enter the area, the Turks, I think, did the adult thing and refused entry. One of the neocons tried to use the early permission-which was made back when the US and Russia were going to have a naval exercise together- now that is off, but someone in bushcoland thought; hey they already are allowing these ships thru, lets go with this idea and hope we can snow Turkey as easily as we do congress. BUT, Turkey has already refused to allow a hospital ship in-the USNS Comfort-declaring it an UNNECESSARY PROVOCATION. You really believe that the Turks-who told the US to get screwed when bush and rummy thought to send some troops thru Turkey on their way to the Iraq invasion. Then Turkey once more spit in the US eye when they invaded the Kurd part of Iraq, something that the US tried to stopand when we tried to get them to leave, once more the Turks told us to buzz off, we will leave when we want to- would let in 2 DD’s? I trust the Turks to not do anything as stupid as what the bushies want done. It would not really surprise me if a call went out from the pentagon to someone in Turkey saying;hey we have to go along with what these idiots have ordered, but we would not be unhappy if you guys put up a no trespassing sign.

actually max, the Russians had returned to the port a day before bush started this foolishness. However, one hopes that they return our HUMV’s which they had taken. Meanwhile, what about the marines who had been traing the Georgians? The USMC wanted them to come back to CONUS, but bush said NO, I don’t want Georgia to think we are abandoning them
