A little more light on the Georgian question
As you know, Pakistan has descended into chaos. So we are being supplied somewhat through Russia and former Central Asian Republics. According to Helena Cobban, the Russians are very politely reminding us that the Georgia question is not vital enough for us to have our troops in Afghanistan cut off.
Helena mentions that a fuel convoy was blown up last March on the Afghan Pakistan border. That is correct, I also remember some US helicopters were stolen that were being shipped by truck through Pakistan. At the best of times, Pakistan is an unreliable supply route, and we are no longer in the best of times there.
So the route through Russia and the former Soviet Central Asian Republics might be the only reliable route we have.
And the Russians are telling us that playing around with Georgia, we have a lot more at risk than they do. And they are telling us in a mature manner. Why is all the adult leadership in Moscow? Can’t we find any grownups in Washington?
