Russia-Georgia gives McCain a bounce in the polls? Here’s a question: How many innocent lives will be saved in October if McCain is ten points up instead of Obama?

Hah! a rhetorical question. Missiles will be flying - American and/or a proxy’s - come October, the number calculated to the level of belligerence necessary to ensure Republican victory. Fewer die if McCain is winning, more die if Obama’s winning. Is it complicity to goad Bushco/GOP, who view the military as a propaganda organ AND private security force, to gin up violence against innocent civilians to maintain power?

Some yes but more no, but no only if you understand that if Obama wins despite, the lesson won’t be lost, though supposing Obama needs to be taught that lesson is ruby.

Standard linky goodness, an ex-lover’s birthday, ear-whig.

This is the most confusing poll results I have ever seen. The results are obscure and all over the place. The “bounce” that you pounce on is only on the narrow question of who is better at Russian roulette, IT IS NOT, an over all bounce: McCain still trails Obama and got no stickin’ bounce on the bigger question.

Which makes a military October surprise all the MORE likely, yes?

I concede the miltary preference for McCain, unless Biden is picked as VP. Americans love their hawks, and when the eagle flies with the dove…

I am not so sure about an October military surprise. It is absolutely true that there 1,000 US Marine infantry in Georgia just before the Georgian attack on Ossetia.

There time of departure from Georgia has been given as much as 10 days or a few hours before the war.

John McCain has been making phone calls to President Saakashvili since before the war started. And of course we know that McCain chief foreign policy adviser was until recently a lobbyist for Georgia. Isn’t this all a little unusual? What business does McCain have in calling Georgia?

For all McCain’s talk about his experience, this little war has really scared a lot of people in Washington. Me too in Tokyo. If an American Marine battalion had collided with the Russian army, could we have avoided nuclear war?

Maybe, maybe not.

If this is what McCain calls experience, playing nuclear fire with Russia, then we will be facing war with Russia a few months into a McCain presidency. He has been consistently stating that he is going to “punish” Russia.

For what? what have they done to us? Nothing! OK, if you don’t like them, don’t go on tour in Novgorod.

But not liking somebody is not reason to risk thermo nuclear war. This is not presidential behavior.

Blk, add this russian oped piece into your equation. It does have at least one fatal flaw, which leads me to think it was for domestic consumption only. That flaw-that the US Navy has moved several warships from the gulf to cruise off the Georgia coast. Problem. Georgia sea coast is on the Black Sea, the only entrance is thru Turkey, and Turkey has refused to allow any american flag ships to enter the Black Sea. Bush wanted to send a message to Russia by sending the USNS Comfort-a hospital ship-but even the pentagon-showing some spine finally-refused to send it. Aside from the fact that Turkey already refused to allow it(it would take about 5 weeks to get there)due to any american flagged ship being an unnecessary provocation and liable to further inflame the Russians for no reason
