Five Danger Signs To Look Out For In Denver

Four years ago, John Kerry made the first big strategic mistake of his campaign by not using the convention as a venue to hammer Bush. Instead he took the high, high road, some where up there in the clouds, and instructed everyone to accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative and insisted that they not even mess with the inbetweeners. I pray that Obama will not make the same mistake. McCain’s convention will be all pig trough, complete with the Beach Boys (they will be there, maybe doing a reprise on McCain’s “bomb, bomb, bomb Iran…”).

So here is my list of five signs from Denver that will spell trouble for Obama’s campaign.

1. Letting John McCain off the hook. They need 10 different kind of speakers to each address one reason why John McCain is not fit to be president. And Obama, himself, needs to hammer McCain. One of the 10 should be a general and one should be a wounded Iraqi vet. One should be a teenager who worries about the future under a John McCain presidency.

2. Focusing more on George Bush than John McCain. It’s okay to link the two and speak of a third term, but George Bush is not running and McCain will use the following week to sort out his differences with Bush, thus trying to neutralize the argument. Reference Bush mistakes on Medicare, the economy, the war, the economy, did I mention that, Katrina, torture, rendition, No Child Left Behind, and the economy.

3. Denying Republicans a chance to speak at the convention, especially those like Congressman Jim Leach and former Senator Lincoln Chafee who have endorsed Obama. You can bet Traitor Joe will pop off against Obama and praise McCain’s shit, except someone should stick Traitor Joe with how comfortable he is with the kind of judges McCain will appoint.

4. Misspeaks by Bill or Hillary Clinton or any of their major surrogates such as Lanny Davis or Terry McAuliffe or James Carville. No first or second tier Clinton supporter can say, in response to a miscue, ”I didn’t know the mike was on”, or “”I was quoted out of context”. There will be some unknown supporters of Hillary’s that the media will find who will spout off and make waves, but none of the first tier supporters should diss Obama, directly or indirectly.

5. Clinton delegate protest and demonstrations, including booing during pro-Obama speeches. They claim there will be a love fest on Thursday, but the sound bits and the YouTube videos could start playing on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

What am I missing?

I totally disagree with number three while agreeing with the others. There is no reason whatsoever to give republicans a platform in Denver. Let the other guys pull that crap.

May I suggest as a substitute “Filling the podium with the same old faces.” Some young Democrats need to be up there talking about the future instead of the past.

Sasha is absolutely right. Since when is a Democratic Party convention a place where republicans can speak??

I hate it, for obvious reasons, when I see Joe Traitor standing next to John McCain. But the message is John McCain works across the isle and has “Democratic” support. John McCain doesn’t have to say it, he shows it. Obama’s problem is he just talks about it. Now if Colin Powell endorses him prior to the convention, that might do, but the rumors are just that, rumors.

And I would say, “since when” should be the theme of this convention. Since when, did a candidate go outside the convention hall to give an acceptance speech so that ordinary, non-party people could hear it? Since when did either party nominate a black man for president? So I have no problems with “since whens”.

Josh, according to his prepared remarks Obama is FINALLY starting to hit back at st john in his speech to the VFW. Unlike mcbush speech yeaterday where all he did was slam Obama, today Obama called him out on it. The question is, will any of the corporate media actually pass the Obama question on to mcbush and demand an answr? My guess is no because the MSM is and will remain pro st john. The prepared speech is here

I heard NPR’s news take while I was driving about this morning, and all they provided was a sound bite of Obama saying something to the effect of this is the kind of campaign Senator McCain wants to run, he can do that. That’s the way it is done in Washington, but I am running a different campaign.

To your point, timr, there was nothing of the substance of what he said. And that from NPR. Meanwhile, when McCain makes the charge, they provide the whole charge. You are on point, my friend.

Josh, with the entire MSM-even NPR which has been showing a repig slant over the last few years-running hard for st john, even with the internet, what can be done? Remember that the sheeple nation-about 50% of all voters-is getting all its info from the very networks who are all out pimping for st john. This is exactly the kind of crap that the Fairness Doctrine prevented. The congress was a whole lot smarter then, and if I remember correctly(which I most likely don’t) it was during the Reagan years that the Fairness Doctrine was removed. Why on earth are the repigs so much -I hate to say it-smarter than the dems when it comes to manipulating the wheels of govt?

Josh, If one peers from Joe L.’s perspective, the first dagger was placed by the DNC brass. He’s independent because of the traitors in the Dem party who organized against him. What a miscalculation!Revenge is sweet.

Nosebetter, they have gone to calling Traitor Joe the “Barry Bonds of DC”. Joe wanted it both ways. He was properly defeated in the Democratic Primary and then like a war lord in any country where he and McCain want to wage war, he switched parties and ran as an independent. He is NOT a Democrat, and if McCain were to win, the blood of the Supreme Court decisions when McCain is finished stacking it, will be on Lieberman’s hands.

I can’t wait for January when Lieberman is stripped of everything but his shorts.
