Playing Go Fish With McBush
Is there anything original about McCain’s campaign?
If so, what is it? Has he not played all of Hillary’s cards while hoping for a different reaction? The latest is McBush charging Obama with playing the race card. Wasn’t it Bill Clinton who said Obama was playing the race card on him? Isn’t the race card played when you are white and your opponent who you want to disparage is black? Isn’t just saying the words “race card” playing the race card, and not when Obama made his remarks about not looking like presidents on dollar bills as part of his broader response to McCain playing the Bush fear card by trying to scare people about the kind of president Obama would make?
First and foremost, Obama is not playing the race card, he is the race card. It looks like McBush was just waiting for the slightest opening to bring race more directly into the equation. One thing for sure, this will bring the race issue more front and center, the only reason McBush is making this self-serving charge. The Iraq card didn’t work. The economy card is too mental and McCain can’t separate himself from his evil twin. So, McCain reasons, let’s make the race (no pun intended) about HIM and not about ME or the real choices both candidates offer.
First McCain is trying to scare the voters about the kind of president Obama will be, then Obama responds to this bullshit, and suddenly Obama is playing the race card? McCain’s twisted logic here is that Obama is playing the race card because it will help his campaign? Huh? I hope Obama lets this one go and moves on.

Amos, would you be that someone? I don’t know where your money is, but I just made another monthly contribution to Obama. Where is your money, Amos? And if you are so smart, I asked the question where is the original play from McBush and all you can do is trash me and give McBush a free ride. Kick it up a notch, A-man, if you want to hang on these pages.

It seems to me that amos is the one who is clinton obsessed.
He must be a product of our no child left behind education system where learning how to identify the subject of a piece of prose is no longer taught.

The picture on the dollar bill doesn’t look like Hillary, either, but I don’t remember her bitching (or whining) about it. Most of the white US presidents don’t get their picture on US bills either. Does Obama think pictures should be placed on bills based on color of skin rather than earned? He hasn’t even been elected and already he is pressuring the country to take George off the dollar bill and put his picture on it. Does Obama’s ego know no bounds? Let’s call a spade a spade. Obama is clearly building anti-white momentum as he has been since Iowa. Is he going to keep this up if he gets in the white House? If he keeps preaching this anti-white trash, I’m going to vote for McCain, because Obama is scaring the hell out of me.

nose and Josh. No, Obama did not play the race card, mccain’s camp is just rushing to put it out there to continue to confuse the issue, and no doubt to keep everyone else from noticing that the Obama/hilton/britney ad is, in fact, racist. In my first 15 min on line this am, I found no fewer than 3 different sources who also-just like I did yesterday Josh-said that the ad was racist. TPM(in 2 different segments)-the link I used on BLK’s post-and no less than the Diane Reihm show on PBS. I think that a lot more people are, at second look, realizing that the ad has nothing to do with celebrity, but much to do with the juxtaposition of a black man and 2 sexually active “available” white women-never mind that both brit and paris are repigs(the hiltons are reported to be furious and have been burning up the phone lines, as they have been a heavy contributor to mccain) I am not alone in believing that race is what the mccain people had in mind. I’ll even wager that they have an equivalent Ford “call me” ad in the can just waiting to be released.
Nose, Obama was attempting to make the point-indirectly-that because he is BLACK the mccain people are going to try and scare the crap out of white america by playing on their fears of black men(just like the Ford ad did)

Get a grip Nosebetter: Obama is scaring you? Why, because McCain says he is scary. Score one for McCain. And where did you get this really stupid, stupid, stupid idea that Obama is “pressuring the country to take George Washington off the one dollar bill and put his picture there.”? You are certainly entitle to your own wild imagination of what Obama is doing, but you are not entitled to your own set of facts.
Timr, I did not say that Obama played the race card. That is my point. But my other point is that a black candidate is by definition “a race card”.

Obama DID play the race card. An argument can be made (and rightly) that he did so in response to the white skank ad, but he DID play the race card.
Why couldn’t he, why wouldn’t he, and most importantly, why shouldn’t he?
He’s not building anti-white sentiment, he’s building anti-pig sentiment.

I agree Josh, but anyone who thinks Obama’s presidents-on-dollars was off-the-cuff and/or innocently not referencing race is foolish.

Josh:
Whenever I try to send a link to BOB, it disappears into the “Twilight Zone” so I never bother any more.
However, if you go to MSNBC and find a story titled ” McCain, Obama go old-school in political jabs” you’ll find the following:
“What theyre going to do is make you scared of me,” Obama said. “You know he’s not patriotic enough, he’s got a funny name, you know, he doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.”
It goes on to say:
“And on Tuesday in Springfield, Mo., he said: “It’s a leap, electing a 46-year-old black guy named Barack Obama.”
It’s not the McCain team that keeps me nervous. It’s Obama, himself, and it started way back in the primaries when people thought McCain wouldn’t last through the primaries.

Nosebetter, I’m not the techie on the site so I don’t know what happens when you try to link. Others do, but there you have it. I have no quarrel with you being nervous about Obama: My quarrel was where you got this idea that he was “pressuring”, your word, the country to put him on the dollar bill. That has no basis in fact and its on very shaking ground if imagined.
I don’t take Obama for a fool. I’m sure he is saying this stuff, THIS WAY, casually, jokingly, in an off-handed manner, because he has to do it this way now. Remember we don’t know everything that they know. I don’t see many mistakes coming out of this team. I for one, am willing to cut him some slack.
With regard to playing the race card, I think he played that one in Philadelphia. To mix metaphors, it was game, set, match. And he aced it.

bdr I agree to most of your post but McCain’s campaign morphed Senator Obama’s face onto money over a month ago. Now McCain is claiming that Obama made it up. But “Paid For By John McCain 2008″ is smack dab on the video.
Youtube may save us yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPARec32KMI
Also use of the “card” construction just pisses me off beyond belief. It is a way of dismissing the discussion, calling it just a game, and then claiming in a passive-aggressive way that they didn’t do a thing. So no, Obama didn’t “play the race card.” He made a statement about race, one that was relevant and on point. The McCain folks are trying to take away Obama’s ability to discuss race while they use it behind the scenes. And he gets to call them on it, hard and often.

Sasha, I’m going to memorize your last paragraph: it is the single best analysis I have seen on this issue. (You should repeat it as a post and then “digg” the post to see if you get any traction on their pick up.) For the rest of us, we should use it in letters to our editors.
