My thoughts on Impeachment
You know, I remember back to Richard Nixon. He was not tried, and the Nation moved on. At first, I thought, well perhaps we should not put Bush and Cheney on trial. I felt that we would have enough troubles in the future. But thinking of these coming troubles, Peak Oil and Global warming, they are going to be deadly for America. People could start dying from them next year.
So the Bushies invaded Iraq, with the intention of dominating Middle Eastern oil and putting the problems of Peak Oil off for another generation. And in the process, they let crony companies into Iraq and created a scale of fraud and graft that has not yet been seen in America. Oh yes, we have had our scandals, but these Bushies have broken the records.
Oh and by the way, they have failed totally in dominating the oil supply.
But the really big thing is, we are looking at a situation where America may disappear as a nation.
And they did nothing to to even inform people of the magnitude of disaster coming. And believe me, they knew all along how bad it will be.
And through all this the Bushies have lied, cheated, and cavorted, laughing at us, making us the fools.
And to me, that is the greatest crime of the Bushies.

Max, last year Sy Hersh claimed the gwb would attack Iran before the end of Aug 08. Does this art. mean that he was right?

Timr,
I think that the Neocons are still quite desperate to attack Iran. I think they believe Obama will win, and they will lose their chance. They have lost all logic and reason. It has been PROVEN that Iran is not developing a bomb. But they refuse to accept any evidence contrary to their beliefs.
That is one definition of insanity. So far, we have been lucky because certain elements, primarily in the military but also in the government, havebeen able to hold off the Iran attack. But we shall have to keep watch until January 1 2009.

RE: Attack on Iran
There appears to have been a shift in strategy.
The US cannot do the attack itself without risking very unfavorable reactions from both Russia and China. Sec. of Treasury Paulson is in Russia this week soliciting improvements in trade and investment between Russian and the US. China holds trillions of US dollars. Dumping those would crush us. Both Russia and China do lots of business with Iran.
It appears as though Israel will get the nod to carry out the raid
if it is done at all. Getting people to believe that Israel acted unilaterally without US support is laughable but is still a better option than doing it ourselves. With Israel doing the attack there is at least a thin cover of plausible deniability.
With oil at $140+ per bl., further destabilization of the middle east
would make the US look like the rogue state (again) and would invite all kinds of negative attention. Maybe even armed response against Israel and/or other U.S. interests in the region.
If this administration is really crazy enough to attack Iran, look for them to postpone or cancel the election for reasons of “national security”. Some say it’s safer for them to remain in office than to leave and risk prosecution for war crimes. Meanwhile, Cheney has made plans to live in Dubai.

jBart, Israel may bomb Syria and the US has “Plausible deniability” But if Israel bombs Iran, the whole world knows that the US approved. At any rate, if either the US or Israel bomb Iran; the Israelis deserve all the “Incoming” they get, for starting this.
How can any nation that has nukes, attack another nation that may or may not aspire to have such weapons. Sounds rather absurd to me.

JerryA,
I agree and said so in my comment. But if you’ll recall, the past 12 years have been just exactly as you say: absurd.
The wars in both Afganistan and Iraq are absurd. A foreign policy that creates more terrorists than it eliminates is absurd.
Undermining science for the sake of pandering to the religious right is absurd.
Building and driving monster SUVs right up to the point of peak oil is absurd.
Accepting the report on 9-11 in the face of a whole lot of contrary evidence is absurd.
Pretending that the U.S. is still a shining example of democracy is absurd.
If you’ll just look around, we are way into absurdities. So, in the face of all this and more, bombing Iran seems fairly straight forward.
At least for the Bush/Cheney crew.
