Will Keith Obermann Replace Katie Couric?

He almost got the job the first time around. As everyone knows, especially fans of his like timr, he has raised the tone–and quality–of news coverage, especially with his biting commentary sections on Countdown. However, he has been fired more times than Britney Spears has been in the hospital, practically being fired from every job he has held. While he has been good for MSNBC, seen by less than one million viewers, he has worn his political bias on his sleaves: good for cable news and those of us who think Bush hasĀ gotten a free pass in the media, but not the stuff prime time is or has been made of. He is good, but my guess not ready for the Big Show, as most minor leaguers know.

Here is an interesting behind-the-scenes profile on Keith in the recent New Yorker.

Josh somebody needs to replace Katie, and soon. She has pretty much ruined the CBS news division, and spends way to much time treating the evening news like it is just a short version of the Today Show. That said, I would prefer someone like the guy who filled in the gap between Rather and Katie. You know who I mean, he does the Sunday show on CBS. You need someone like him, or like Walter(who I remember BTW) Rather was similar to KO in many ways, but I am unsure just how well KO would play on the Network scene. NBC did give KO a shot with his Countdown program on the network as a special program before Sunday Night Football. But the suits kind of put him in a straitjacket, I wonder if they will try that again this year, but give him more elbow room.
BTW, since still no open thread, I thought you might like this. Radio controlled airplanes have come a long way since I last saw them

Timr, the open thread is there, just a few posts below. How did you miss it? A new one goes up at least once a week, or when the open thread hits the bottom of the page.

I hope not. We need him where he is. As a Couric replacement he wouldn’t be allowed opinions or edge. Surely there are competent reporters out there.

I have an idea! How about Dan Rather?

Josh, my bad. I have no idea how I missed it. Blind, or very distracted would be my guess
