George Bush’s next big mistake in Iraq

Here we go. George Bush has been trying to ram a Status Of Forces Agreement down Iraqi throats. Basically, the American side is demanding that the Iraqi side agree to a continuation of the present situation, that the US military can do what it pleases in Iraq. Under Bush’s plan, US forces would have powers of arrest over all Iraqi citizens, including the leadership, control of Iraqi airspace, the right to conduct military operations anywhere inside Iraq, and the right to decide if another country (read Iran) is an enemy of Iraq and to conduct military operations against other nations from inside Iraq. The UN charter allowing the US to lead an international coalition in Iraq runs out this year.

The Iraqi position is basically that all US military operations must have Iraqi government approval, and that US forces only leave their bases at Iraqi government request. Also, the Iraqi government would forbid the US from attacking any other country (read Iran) from bases in Iraq.

The Sadists have already been hitting the streets.

Senior cleric after Senior cleric is warning of an uprising.

Yet George keeps issuing threats.

Somewhere on the net, I have read that George Bush would be one of the worst poker players ever. No matter what his hand is, he would keep throwing more money on the table, upping the ante. I have been known around the bars of my neighborhood years ago as a poker player, and I will tell you, there are times when the sensible thing is to fold and quit throwing good money after bad.

One theory is that President Bush is desperate to achieve SOME sort of success in Iraq, and to give Senator McCain a boost. So he wants this agreement wrapped up by the end of July.

Well all he is doing is provoking disaster. I believe that he may very well start a major anti-American paroxysm of violence. The situation is delicate enough without provocations.

This would help to undermine Senator McCain’s claims of progress in Iraq, but the sad thing here is how many Americans and Iraqis’ have to die to prove Republicans wrong?

According to McClatchy, bush is demanding that the US have 58 military bases in Iraq. They also reported that the US congress wants to be involved in this, but bush said the agreement will be an “executive accord” and will not require Senate ratification.

Pat by saying the US Senate does not have to be involved, well the US President really like to make up the rules as he goes along, doesn’t he? In any case, the negotiations are going very badly.

You know, when you station troops in a country, not to mention those obscene private contractors, and then you demand immunity from the laws of that nation, even though it has been proven that your troops and those contractors have killed many and robbed many, this is not spreading Democracy, this is worse than colonialism, it is a form of enslavement.
