I Wish I Had Been There
There have been many emotional moments on the floor of the US Senate and I was fortunate to be an eye and ear witness to some of them many years ago. But there was one yesterday that I wish I could have witnessed. Of all the sentimental and powerful statements made about Senator Ted Kennedy […]

‘08: The Binary Race
This year’s election is either a sea change of historic proportions or Obama is going to get clocked like McGovern and Dukakis. There is no middle ground. The spinmeisters in McCain’s, Hilla’s and the MSM are starting to roll the electoral college dice and they’re coming up snake-eyes for Obama. That doesn’t […]

Envying Rubes
Work’s work, just more so, and United sucks and not even interestingly (and they’ve earned a bit of mulligan anyway), and I’ve two camera-tickets in the past two weeks, both on Grosvenor, where I know where the camera is, and I know - and I’ve Planet as witness - I was doing 20 in a […]

The Reckless Card
John McBush is going after Barack Obama’s calling card: judgment. Obama has said, effectively, that experience is not a substitute for judgment and that on the invasion of Iraq, there isn’s a penny’s work of difference between Bush, McCain, and Hillary Clinton. It has worked for Obama in the primaries and McBush and Pugs know […]

Nancy Pelosi, Say it isn’t so!
Nancy Pelosi seems to be trying to outdo George Bush.
On a visit to Israel, she said that if countries want to be friends with the US, they must treat Iran as a pariah nation, and totally support America’s aggressive policy towards Iran.
This has rankled Japan, a longtime American friend. America forced Japan to give up […]

Open Thread: The Keating Card
Who will play it and how will it be played? There is not much new on Google, but a NYT editorial brought it up today in connection with another call for the Pugs First-Lady-in-Waiting to release her tax returns that benefit McCain. Will this be an ice-breaker or will McCain get a pass on this […]

How Hillary Got It Wrong
Some worry that Senator Clinton hasn’t been given a fair shake because she is a woman. I’d say that she had a more than fair shot at winning the Democratic nomination, starting with huge name recognition, supposed to have the experience and the political pros on her side, hailed as inevitable. What she did, however, […]

If Italians Could Vote
I just got back from a week in Rome. My third time and I was again reminded that it is a city that I could easily live in. The Americano is easily spotted even though I don’t where chinos or sneakers. My Italian is horrible, but I’ve learned that if I speak Spanish, they think I’m […]

Something to Watch
Ran across this on Josh Marshall’s site today. ProPublica is a non-profit site that promises to be the nation’s largest investigative journalism organization. Real heavyweights. Incredibly well-funded. Not launched yet, but should be interesting. Bookmark it and watch.

Makes Your Skin Crawl.
Obama was masterful today in dealing with that twin-headed insanity called McBush. If this is the tone of the campaign, it will be a miracle. Because for every wonderful moment there’s shit like this from people like Mike Huckabee. I pray we’re smarter this time.
