In this article, the US Justice Department has released a detailed report of US torture.
It was condoned and encouraged by the highest levels of the US government. In other threads, on other forums where I write, things like the right to intervene in other countries’ affairs are being discussed. Thinking about such things is now an exercise in fantasy.
It used to be that if American leaders spoke, their opinions were respected and listened to around the world. The story of the US President offering proof of Soviet missiles in Cuba is interesting. When Kennedy wanted to show photographic proof to the French, the French Prime Minister famously replied, “If the President of the United States says it is so, then I believe it.”
I doubt that any country in the world will respect the United States of America in such a way in the future. So if we want to intervene somewhere, we will not find allies. Not to mention that we will not be able to afford the fuel to deploy troops. This is the legacy that the Bush administration has bequeathed to the American people and the next president.

A free market, that is going to stop our torturing people? By the way, I know most of the top American businessmen in Tokyo, it is very hard to fine to find one who thinks positively about George Bush, they experience first hand the difficulties he has created for America.
Your reaction does show something interesting though. Americans are having a very difficult time grappling with the fact that we have become a nation that commits evil acts. Sorry, but our own Justice Department says we have done nasty things. Yet that does give me hope. There are still people in America, in official positions, who are not afraid to state the truth. And we do make effort to try to clean our own house. As a German, I kinda wish the German government had been able to stand up to Hitler back in the thirties and tell him he was wrong.
But it did take us a while, and a lost war in Iraq for us to find our cojones. And George Bush is no Hitler, he is a midget wannabe. And maybe we are lucky too. Hitler won in Poland and France. Maybe if George Bush had won Iraq we would be truly a Fascist nation by now. Anyway, thank the Gods it didn’t turn out that way.
But your post is a real hoot! I am a Communist who loves Bin Laden, Al Qaeda, and free condoms for school kids! Where do you dream this stuff up?
By the way, speaking of passing out condoms to school kids, please go grab one of your local school kids and have them point out to you what a paragraph is. Also, a spell checker would be a good idea.
