I finally had a chance to listen to his entire presentation. I was struck by how many times he used the word “contradict”. I was also struck by how he said most of what he said from the heart, not staff-prepared cliff notes. I can’t imagine McBush or McClinton doing that!

And the unfortunate thing is, I think the good Reverend has a point about American race relations. They are not peachy good. Maybe it is time we Americans stop believing everything is so wonderful in the U.S., and start to understand that we have some serious problems.

There is a wonderful book out there that has been around for a while. It makes your point, Max, and more. The title says it all: “Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong,” by James W. Loewen. And another good one by Ronald Takaki, “A Different Mirror: A History of Multicultural America”.
