Our leadership, out in Fantasyland
Our leadership is so deep into dreamland.
Now President Bush is prattling on about a diplomatic surge in the Middle East. He is saying that Arab governments are going to have to recognize the Iraqi Maliki government as a counter to Iranian hegemony. Well two things.
One. Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki and Iran are really good friends. “Hello! Mr. President! Do you remember the warm welcome given to President Ahmandinjad of Iran by Prime Maliki of Iraqi when the Iranian leader visited Iraq? It was a lot nicer than you got, but of course, you have to sneak into town, you only dare give 5 minutes of warning before your arrival. If you are that worried about an Iraqi, even in the government, taking a shot at you, is there really that much love there?”
And number two. A couple of months ago, President Bush toured oil producing nations to try to get them to lower gas prices so Americans can continue to drive their gas guzzlers, and also to build an anti Iran alliance. Everywhere the President received polite treatment, and resounding “NO”’s. Oil prices are now steady at over $110. a barrel. As for Iran, the Gulf States told our President Iran will be there long after we are gone. Scratch that Grand Alliance.
However as we all know, the President has no learning curve, so now he will try again.
I think at this point, instead of trying to come with a legacy so late in his term, and embarrassing the President should take up a hobby, like knitting.
