The End, Take II
From my old blog, the Daily Aneurysm, two years ago today:
I’ve hinted at this before, but I’m happy to go on record with it today: It’s the official position of this blog that the Democratic Party will find a way to lose the 2008 presidential election. It doesn’t matter who the Repugs put up; the Democrats will find a way to blow it. They’ll do it by nominating someone unelectable, like Hillary, or they’ll do it by irreparably damaging an electable candidate in the primary season, or they’ll do it by letting their candidate be swiftboated over the summer, or they’ll do it in some other way–but barring some truly spectacular event on the Repug side, the Democrats will lose in 2008. (And that’s assuming the election isn’t jacked by the voting machines.)
I can’t add much to what Leftcoast says below, except to say that in the past, I have defended Hillary against charges of amoral ambition, but no more. As Olbermann noted last night, she could have stopped her surrogates from making racist charges, but she didn’t, not until long after the horse had left the barn. She wants to be president so badly that she can’t stop herself from destroying any chance Barack Obama might have to be president, by whatever means necessary. She’d be trying to do the same thing if he were white, of course, but the fact that he isn’t makes it worse. She’s married to “the first black president,” for chrissakes.
Anybody who dreamed that Obama’s candidacy might spark the long-needed national conversation on our ugly racist heritage didn’t bank on the pathologies that make the conversation necessary.

JA, I did bank on the pathologies - I was hoping for the debate - I just didn’t anticipate it coming from the Left.
Which makes me a dope. Apologies.
I keep telling myself think SCOTUS, think SCOTUS, hold my nose and vote The Hillary if necessary for the sake of SCOTUS.
Fuck that is becoming an ever more attractive option.

I am spending a lot of time on the SCOTUS thing too. Makes me sad though.
