L.A. Times Endorses Obama

It has been an exciting couple of days for Obama supporters, with news that the Obama campaign raised $32 million dollars in January, from 170,000 new donors, and the endorsement from Paul Volcker, former Chair of the Federal Reserve, to still fears that Obama lacks substance. But the L.A. Times endorsement is more than a, yes, we like this guy, as fine a piece of political rhetoric as I have seen in print.

Two key paragraphs,

“With two candidates so closely aligned on the issues, we look to their abilities and potential as leaders, and their record of action in service of their stated ideals. Clinton is an accomplished public servant whose election would provide familiarity and, most important, competence in the White House, when for seven years it has been lacking. But experience has value only if it is accompanied by courage and leads to judgment…..

“In the language of metaphor, Clinton is an essay, solid and reasoned; Obama is a poem, lyric and filled with possibility. Clinton would be a valuable and competent executive, but Obama matches her in substance and adds something that the nation has been missing far too long — a sense of aspiration.”

It is a natural since a street-wise Chicagoan owns the Trib now. And what better than an endorsement from the semi-Kansan Obama to cover up the racism that plagues LA… they don’t call “the 10″ the “coal chute” for nothin…

I have to say Obama is an attractive candidate for us non Americans, the guy is a breath of fresh air and he does have a following outside the U.S. It’s corny, but for those of us who are old enough, the inevitable comparison to President Kennedy’s run and short (very unfortunate and tragic) time in office are being made. Personally, I’m watching and rooting for him. He “got” me at the 2004 convention. I hope he makes it….:)
