Lush Life…
Richard Roberts, president of Oral Roberts University. Not Billy Strayhorn. Who will be the next theocrat to fall from grace on the religious right? In Adam’s fall we sinned all, innit David?

Sitting in Tokyo for 34 years, it is hard to understand how so many Americans take these people, who come from such low level academic institutions as “Bible Colleges” seriously.

Notre Dame and Southern Methodist University have pretty solid credentials. Don’t forget Harvard was founded by the Puritans…Oh well, Harvard does provide evidence that some bible colleges are low-level academic institutions, but don’t base the whole bible college community on Harvard. There are some good schools. ![]()

It’s a sad day…Dick and Lindsay were my heroes, and provided me with funny things to write about. Cheers!!

Yale too was a religious institution back when Judah P. Benjamin had to leave school and head to Luzianne. The over-arching issue is to what extent are Christian secondary and university/college level institutions replicating the function of Madrass schools play in the Nations of Islam.

I am not referring to solid established institutions like Notre Dame or Southern Methodist.
There just are too many “Bible Thumper” colleges. The Christian fundamentalists also don’t recognize Catholics or Methodists as Christians either, and that should be a give away.
Basically, I referring to schools that regard Bible scripture as paramount in determining curriculum.

Both my parents went to these type of Bible junior colleges as well as my younger brother, but I was “saved” by going to secular university for undergraduate school, and then sin of all sins, to Georgetown (Catholic) University for graduate school. I’m still the black sheep in the family.
Max is right on about this one.

Perhaps the greater question is how many of these “thumper” schools are now degree mills turning out folks with right wing Bushco theocratic values that go into government, or near-government or, heaven forbid… outsourcing… I’m surprised Ashcroft isn’t running one. But he’s rich and knows how to hire what Kinky Friedman calls “good people”…
