Political Football
Here’s your Quote of the Day from Glenn Greenwald, on news that Democrats Schumer and Feinstein will vote in favor of Michael Mukasey’s AG nomination in the Senate Judiciary Committee, bringing an end to a couple of days of theatrical handwringing over the nomination: “When Bush says: ‘9/11-AlQaeda-Terrorism-GiveMeX,’ Democrats always ensure that he gets ‘X.’ The only variable is how they will do it, which specific members will ensure that it happens. ‘X’ here was Mukasey’s confirmation, and Democrats are thus complying as always.”
I’d call ‘em spineless weasels, but that would be unfair to invertebrates and weasels.
For more on how the ostensible “opposition party” has left us well and truly screwed, not just on this nomination but on everything else that’s happened in Washington over the last six years, read Greenwald’s whole post here. (For a tale of another Democrat cave-in, click here.)
But hey, it’s the weekend, and there’ll be time enough to worry about the world come Monday. I traditionally do football picks here only during the NFL playoffs, but since tomorrow’s game between the 8-and-0 Patriots and 7-and-0 Colts is being hyped as “Super Bowl 41 1/2,” here’s a pick. The difference between this game and the other Pats games this season is that it will be comparatively close because the Colts are that good. But to actually beat the Patriots? They’re not that good. Patriots 38 (because they always score 38), Colts 24.

I think that the score might be a little bit closer, but agree with you that the Pats win. 28-21.
