Mitt Romney’s inquisitor
On Face the Nation yesterday Bob Schieffer pinned the Massachusetts governor against the ropes and pummeled him with question after question about his Mormon (LDS) faith. All defense, all the time, Romney referred Schieffer’s questions about LDS doctrine to the Elders in Salt Lake City. But this wasn’t good enough for self-styled Christian Schieffer; his line of questioning seemed to imply that America is not ready for a Mormon president. When Mitt would slip a punch Schieffer would score by attacking Romney’s liberal stance on same sex marraige and abortion. Schieffer asked the Mittster if he would do what JFK did in 1960, namely, make a speech explaining his faith to the American people. Romney suggested that this was unnecessary and unllkely. During his commentary segment at the end of the show, Schieffer defended his tenacious questioning of Romney’s belief system, stating that if the governor had not agreed to answer questions about Mormon beliefs, he wouldn’t have asked any… at least Mitt didn’t agree to wear the white dunce cap. He’s toast. A defender and a pretender… not a decider in the GOP sense of the word.

I can tell you that most Christians consider the Mormon Church to be a heretical cult and not a part of Christianity.
I am a Muslim so I can say that without any backlash. Everyone hates the “Islamics” right now anyway!
The conservatives dont want Ronmey in office.
Nor do they want to have the Presidency go to a Liberal Woman.

Bush fiddles while California burns .
At San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium, home to the NFL’s Chargers, thousands of people huddled in eerie silence on the bleachers, staring at muted TV news reports of the wildfires. A lone concession stand served coffee and doughnuts.
Looks like another, ” You’re doin a heckuva job Brownie ” from here .

Dub would be glad to give California the N’awlins treatment and say “Governor Schwarzenegger’s doin’ a great job…”

Can’t afford child care health program but we can certainly afford this shite ……..
The State Department “does not know specifically what it received for most of the $1.2 billion in expenditures under its DynCorp contract for the Iraqi Police Training Program,” the audit says. The federal watchdogs, with the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, or SIGIR, said that they even had to suspend their audit because there wasn’t enough data to check the books, which were in “disarray.”
DynCorp’s contract was part of the U.S. strategy to arm and train a new Iraqi police force in the wake of the 2003 invasion. Training the police was a key part of the Bush administration’s efforts in Iraq. The training was considered crucial because police are often unable to withstand insurgent attacks, and are considered penetrated by various militias.
” You’re doin a heckuva job DynCorp ” - what a feckin’ disgrace we’ve become under this lot. Maybe we should sell off the contracts to China ?

Groom you were right on ……
Bush spoke Monday with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Hours later, just before 4 a.m. EDT, he declared a federal emergency for seven California counties, a move that will speed disaster-relief efforts. ( immediately following the finishing touches of a relief program for the victims of Katrina )
The president also sent top federal disaster officials to California to see what more could be done from Washington.
FEMA Administrator R. David Paulison and his boss, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, were expected to land on the West Coast in early evening.
As for a visit from the president himself, White House press secretary Dana Perino said it is “very premature to say.”
I can see a photo-op, with smoldering embers as a background and this disgraceful president, smiling and glad handing a poor film maker…. if you get my drift.

Ima: Yes, the backdrop of smoldering embers could be representative of many things–how Bush leaves the country in tatters, how he has destroyed the national security in the country, his smoke and mirrors policies, the smoldering anger he has created in the whole country, the shape in which he leaves the Republican Party, etc.

Nose, IB, I will discuss the themes of mobilization and evacuation in a post. Just wanted to remind that Pubs who rag on Mormon Mitt aren’t looking at the role that was played by Mormon-Americans in holding the Union together. The so-called Mormon Legion protected lines of communication from the Pacific inland through the territories. They helped defend Nevada (a state) with valuable gold and silver resources from Confederate troops and irregulars. Their form of social organization at the time was ideal for holding the West in Union hands. They have always been inclusive and tolerant (polygs have exploited this until now) because they want to be included and have their beliefs tolerated. Instead, what the Religious Right is doing is not much different than what the Islamicist wackos are doing by alienating the Assad family and the Alawite minority to which they belong by designating them as second class members of Islam, more or less. It must be annoying to the religious right in the US that the LDS Church (Mormons) do a better job of taking care of their own than the “rugged individualist Christians” of the right… Mormons who stick with the church get some decent assistance from the home office when times are tough, etc. Does Mitt Romney need to win the BCS of Christian faiths in order to get the GOP nomination?

Groom: They didn’t volunteer to help the Union. Lincoln Drafted Nevada into the Union because of the gold, silver, and other minerals. Lincoln sent federal troops there to secure the state. Moot point because I think Wall Street sold all the mines to foreign and in some cases sovereign nations. The OPEC countries are mostly buying oil and natural gas, I think. They are in the process of quietly monopolizing our eneregy resources…here I go again! I fail to see your problem with the Mormon issue. Mitt’s former company is accused of selling our military secrets and making us more vulnerable to cyber attack. Do you think those issues might be more of a problem with his campaign?
