Slightly Better Is Not Better

I understand the argument that big picture Democratic success requires small picture Democratic setbacks now, and that whatever is lost in strategic retreats before election success will be won back and more, past losses recovered.

I understand the argument that lesser neoliberals do make life slightly better for their human game-pieces than greater neoliberals, if for no other reason than to keep the relative peace contractually.

And I deeply understand my need to believe that my side is morally better, if only by one click, than theirs, and both sides (which are the same side) exploit this need in their drones to maintain the rule of the same side.

And I understand how invested I am in the status quo, a comfortable dope more actively worried about United’s midfield than abstractly concerned about the exploited poor in my side’s torture chambers.

I forget my complicity. It will be hours of gnashing before I slip back into it.

I agree. Perhaps Dems would fight harder against the assault on civil liberties if they weren’t viewing Bush’s gains as there’s to use in 2009.

I knew you’d eventually get here.
