Why Are We Pretending That Bin Laden is Alive?
The latest Bin Laden tapes were such obvious frauds–easily debunked on both the left and right sides of the blogsphere–that it begs the question: why is the Bush Administration pretending that it thinks Mr. Evil is still out there somewhere, plotting to take out the Holland Tunnel or the GW Bridge?Â
What conceivable reason could Bushco have for wanting to keep the Bin Laden myth alive? A convenient boogyman to drag out to scare people when they start thinking too sensibly? Some sort of intelligence strategy to make al Qaida (the real one, not the fake one in Iraq) think we know less than we do? Not enough real evidence (e.g., a body, a Che-like picture) to stage manage the release of the news in order to steal an election?Â
Is it some sort of strategic lie; like Israel pretending it didn’t know that Saddam Hussein didn’t have any WMDs so Bush and Cheney could have their war?
Whatever it is, read my lips: Osama is not pining for the fjords. He has passed on. He is no more. He has ceased to be. He’s expired and gone to meet his maker. He is a late jihadist. He’s a stiff. Bereft of life. Since Tora Bora, probably.
The only real mystery here is why Bushco isn’t taking credit.Â

Reminds of a story out of the book of Revelation.
Particularly the one about an “Image of the Beast” that causes those who are perishing to worship the first beast, whose wound from the sword had been healed.
Could it be? And 9-11 could be the “Great Illusion” that caused everyone to follow the man of lawlessness.

I thought it was an amazing coincidence that the bin laden tape appeared right before Gen Petraeus gave his/bush’s Iraqi progress report. bush brings out these tapes to scare the unthinking into submission. After all, a lot of these people still believe that bin laden and Iraq are connected.
It’s obvious that the guy in the tape is not osama, but bush knows that doesn’t matter to those who are afraid to the point where they are unable to reason.
Whenever I see a tape of bin laden (real or not) it reminds me that bush is the one who let him go, and that bush abandoned his search for osama in order to go after saddam hussein - a guy who never was a threat to us.

They’re not only pretending that bin laden is alive, they are also pretending that Abu Risha was a real sheik:

My first clue was the “press release” that Bin Laden supposedly announced that he was “bringing forth a tape.”

I just saw the Bin laden tape, and I recognize the guy! It is Joe Schmuckatelli from my High School! He went missing just after graduation! Something about a job flying for an airline in Laos! In 1974! And the Beard, that is the same tacky one he used in the High School play when he was Moses!
Do you folks think we are being conned?!?

Truth be told, OBL could still be alive, I don’t know. But if he is, he hides away in a cave deep in remote mountain mountains, why obsess over him? There are many more problems we have created ourselves in the Middle East.
