Quote of the Day

I have been past the point for several years at which I can stand to look at anything other than still pictures of George W. Bush. Watching him move or hearing him speak–not gonna do it. And while I’m sorry to read that Pam Spaulding at Pandagon put herself through the man’s NPR interview yesterday, I enjoyed her take on it nevertheless.

Never mind the ongoing frustration that comes from witnessing how Bush’s inarticularity (hey, if he can make words up, so can I) sounds like plain-spoken wisdom to his wingnut followers. If you were interviewing candidates for latex salesman or screening guys to paint your house, you’d assume after two minutes that anyone who has so much trouble constructing a coherent sentence is either on the sauce or simply too dumb to be trusted not to toss a cigarette butt in the turpentine and burn your house down.

But, hey, we made that same guy Leader of the Free World!

(One of the many things about Bush that makes one nostalgic for Nixon is that Nixon was the last Repug president who didn’t speak like he’d learned English as a second language from a bad teacher. The man wrote books, for chrissakes.)

Bush’s performance on NPR would be funnier if it wasn’t so scary. Which is why I love the quote from one of Pam’s readers, Marek, who says of Bush, “_His_ drinking problem is rapidly becoming _my_ drinking problem.”

Is it happy hour yet?
