Yellowcakegate could be quicksand for Tony Blair
For those who haven't been following the cousins side of "yellowcakegate", Lord Hutton. the presiding judge, has allowed a broadening of the investigation beyond the immediate circumstances of the alleged suicide death of Ministry of Defense consultant Dr. David Kelly.
The New Zealand Herald reports today that Martin Howard, a senior British intelligence officer, under questioning, placed into evidence that Prime Minister Tony Blair had personally intervened in the matter of Dr. Kelly.
An internationally respected expert on Iraq's WMD programs, Kelly was the first to question the "sexed up" report pandered by Blair and his minions to wit that Saddam Hussein could launch a chemical and biological attack within 45 minutes. Pro-Blair witnesses have attempted to portray Dr. Kelly as an unstable man with an axe to grind. Ironically, this is exactly what Henry Kissinger said in an effort to discredit Daniel Ellsberg.
For his part, Martin Howard's revelation provides the "smoking gun" that puts the intelligence fabrication inside 10 Downing Street.
The White House, the Pentagon and the CIA foisted the cousins intelligence fabrication on Congress to justify Shrubby's war. Get your slickers ready in case the blowback hits this side of the pond during political season.
