Friedman Bites
For those of you believed (as I did until today) that Thomas Friedman was not yet a complete fool, I offer the following from his Sunday column, to push you over the edge:
Mr. Bush doesn't owe the world any explanation for missing chemical weapons (even if it turns out that the White House hyped this issue). It is clear that in ending Saddam's tyranny, a huge human engine for mass destruction has been broken.
I assume that Friedman is now advocating that every time any tinpot dictator anywhere in the world commits acts of "evil," America should dash into a phone book and whip on its Supernation costume and go forth to liberate the downtrodden. If evil is the only criteria for deciding on intervention, our young men and women of the armed forces are going to be very busy for next several decades.
The only possible valid reason for invading Iraq was that Saddam possessed weapons of mass destruction that might fall into the hands of terrorists who would use them against us. We expect our presidents to defend democracy here but the Iraqis did not choose Shrub to be their personal savior. Spare me the Saddam was evil, bullshit. No threat to the U.S. No rationale for invasion.
Sorry, Tom, but Shrub goddamned right owes us and the entire world an explanation for his very big lie.
